British Airways Crash Lands at OR Tambo International Airport

No passengers on flight BA6234 were injured after the British Airway plane was forced to commence a crash landing at OR Tambo International Airport on Monday.
"British Airways' (operated by Comair) BA6234, a 10:35 departure from Port Elizabeth, with six crew and 94 passengers on board, was involved in an incident on landing at OR Tambo International Airport just after 12:00 today," Comair said in a statement.
"We can confirm that all passengers and crew safely disembarked with no reported injuries. Passengers have been taken to the terminal building where staff are on hand."
Comair has announced that the relevant authorities would launch the necessary investigation in order to find out what exactly occurred on the flight that induced a crash landing.
Comair also said that more information would be released as soon as it became available from the relevant sources.
Passengers reported to media that the pilot made an announcement as the plane in question was coming in for landing. The pilot had informed passengers of the aircraft that the left landing gear had broken off. Due to the nature of the incident, the plane hit the runway at an angle.
"This caused the plane to hit the runway at an angle. We could see sparks as the left wing and the engines were scraped across the runway," Passengers told media.
Airports Company SA spokesperson Colin Naidoo said he was still awaiting full details of the incident.
Comair confirmed the incident involving a Boeing 737-400, registration ZS-OAA experienced a failure with the landing gear shortly after touching down.
The aircraft was on the runway for a short period performing standard landing procedures when the crew noticed an unusual vibration which was followed shortly by the collapse of the left landing gear.
ACSA emergency services were dispatched and responded to the scene immediately and assisted passengers and crew to safely disembark.
The aircraft is currently on runway 03R and Comair and the relevant authorities are onsite making the necessary arrangements for the removal of the aircraft.
