Legendary Astronaut Buzz Aldrin Evacuated From South Pole after Falling Ill

The 2nd person ever to walk on the moon has been exiled from the South Pole for the reason of a medical disorder

Buzz Aldrin, the previous US astronaut in addition the second individual to set foot on the moon, was evacuated from the South Pole because of a medical condition, said a tourism company on Thursday last week.

Buzz Aldrin, 86, went to spend some time at the South Pole as part of a tourist group when his illness worsened, said the corporation White Desert in a statement.

He was rescued on the earliest available flight out of the South Pole to McMurdo Station, a neighboring US exploration base, under the watch of a doctor, and his condition quiet stable, the company said. McMurdo is found on Ross Island, just outside the coast of Antarctica.

The company's declaration, which was uploaded on the website of a tourism trade group, did not specify the ailment.

A past fighter pilot, Aldrin stepped on the moon about 20 minutes after Neil Armstrong took the historic first step on July 20, 1969.

Their moonwalk as part of the Apollo 11 lunar landing was watched by a record at the time television viewership of 600 million persons.

The US National Science Foundation, which controls the US Antarctic Program, said Aldrin would ultimately be expatriated to New Zealand.
