Yacht wreckage found on the West Coast shores, leaves two dead

A yacht carrying 3 passengers overturned on the west coast of South Africa during the early parts of Monday morning. A woman and man aged sixty one and forty two respectively died after their Yacht capsized and crashed against the rocks of the West Coast.
The South African Maritime Safety Authority is busy investigating the scene of the crash where the body of the 61 year old male was found.
The South African National Sea rescue Institute reported that the 49 year old woman was Irish, and the 61 year old male was of Scottish descent.
Reports where received by the NSRI stating that the incident occurred between Ganeskraal and Bokpunt around the western Coast, on Monday at 4:30am. The Yacht, Tara was found wrecked amongst the rocky western shore by responding rescue teams and police dive units.
Reports from the NSRI say that the cause of the crash is unknown and it is unclear whether the yacht capsized before hitting the rocks or initially hit the rocks and broke apart.
According to a spokesman, there were three crew members aboard the yacht, allegedly navigating from Langebaan to Cape Town. A 66-year-old Irish man who lived in the Western Cape made it to the shore to call for help.
“We are liaising with local authorities and seeking further information following the tragic death of a British national in Cape Town, South Africa.” said a Foreign Office spokeswoman.
Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs are liaising with families of the Irish woman, who had been a resident of the Western Cape for many years.
“The department is aware of the death of an Irish citizen in the Western Cape and consular assistance is being provided,” a spokesman said.
